The Land of Prophets
The Land of Prophets was an installation art about women oppression in the Middle East. The design of this piece was inspired by dandelions, for in the Middle Eastern culture a dandelion is a messenger, a prophet, each seed of which carries a wish, a message, or the last ray of hope from the person who blew on it.
This piece consisted of 10 giant acrylic hand-made dandelion seeds, at the bottom of which were 10 acrylic bowls containing light-sensor audio players. These audio players held in them true stories about the brave women in the Middle East who fought for their basic human rights.
The room would go into total darkness upon the audiences’ arrival, which was followed by the sound from the sound players gradually dying down. Then each audience member was invited to use their phone torch to activate the speakers and listen to the stories individually.
This installation was done as my final project at Goldmiths, University of London as part of Cleaves Festival.
